Tax Rebate 30.7.10

Got a nice letter from the taxman on Friday to say that I had indeed paid too much tax in the 08/09 Tax Year, and that I was due £450+ back. Nice.

Banked the cheque this morning so as not to jinx my luck.

Listerine Success

Almost forgot to post this - Listerine came back with a £5 postal order. NICE!

The original Listerine was only £3 something. Fair play to Johnson and Johnson.

I'm giving Dooyoo a try

I've heard that you can get Amazon vouchers for writing reviews of Dooyoo.co.uk, so I've set up an account, sent down my first review, and set up a diary entry to repeat.

Foster Care

I've been trying to get Vicki to get into Foster Caring but she is not up for it at the minute. Perhaps she will be when she comes across this blog and reads this:

"Hi Everyone

If you are considering becoming a Foster Carer, and wondering whether you could afford to do this, you may be interested to learn that County Councils are shortly to be announcing professional level salaries to attract quality Carers with high life skills, to help meet projected demand especially for teenage placements.

By chance today, I interviewed a senior member of Hampshire County Council who gave me the following information which is to be announced in a press release in April 2008, together with a recruitment drive:-

A good skills level Foster Carer who takes on 2 children-salary =£550 p.w.

Plus, you are also paid a boarding payment of between £150-£209 p.w. for each child (amount depending on age of child).
[This payment is worked out as 50% more than you would have to pay if it were your own child]

So, for 2 older children: weekly salary = £550 + (2x £209) =£968 per week
This is a salary of £50,336 equivalent.

Other Councils In England and Wales are expected to follow suit.

This salary is intended to attract a high calibre of caring individual.
There is a 12 week course on Skills to Foster to complete, and professional support is always available.

Thought I'd share this with all you caring MSE'rs. HTH some of you. "

Fresh Idea - Competition Co-Op

Posted this on the MSE Forum:

Has anyone on here ever raised the idea of starting a Competition Co-Op, where cash prizes are shared out between the members?

Looks like it is going to be shot down by trolls as most stuff is on forums. Probably something that is best kept within a family.

I'm on the scrounge... again

I want to get someone to pay for switching my house over from Warm Air to Gas rad. central heating. Here is my first attempt. This went to the Energy Saving Trust (Bloody Quango!)

Hi,

I currently have a warm air heating system, which I feel is unbelievably inefficient. Are there any grants or finance plans I could apply for to help me pay for the switch to radiator central heating?

Kind regards,

Ross Taylor.

I'm looking for deals

I sold my share of Inwood Close last night so I'm now back in the market looking for deals. Everything I touch seems to fall apart at the moment so I'm going to let my network do the work:

Hi Dave,

What’s happening in the BMV world at the moment?

Are deals getting done?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Ross Taylor.

CSA - Taking things to the next level

Dear Sir/ Madam,
Could I please initiate an official complaint against the CSA in regards to the handling of my case. I strongly feel that I have money stolen from me. I am suffering severe financial hardship due to this. At the moment I have lost 2 stone and have had to take time off work.

Please find my last letter to the CSA attached.
Regards,

Query - Is Sky a rip off?

I'm beginning to think more and more that Sky TV is a rip off. Unfortunately my Mrs insists we need a movie package + the comedy channels + Living TV + Music channels. I can't see any alternative.

Any suggestions?

No refund from Vue. The utter, utter bastards.

Current Projects 18/7/10

Here are the current bits and bobs I have on the go:

* Selling my share of 13 Inwood Close, Corby.
* I've just listed an extra 500 books on Amazon, taking my inventory up to 905 books. I reckon there are another 300 to 500 to go on.
* Continue with the "1000 Rock Hard General Knowledge Question" Books. I have the material for these already so they should be able to be knocked out in a day or less.
* My new Maths book should be nearly finished in the next week.
* I might Mothball the Lost Quiz Book, the WW2 quiz book, the Alan PArtridge Quiz Book and the Bible Quiz book for the time being.
* I've not yet started: Scotland Politics book, Jack the Ripper Quiz Book, Sherlock Holmes Quiz book, serial killer quiz book or conspiracy theory quiz book. However, I've got plenty of research material for the first and last of these.
* I've made my first step on Shiply. Bidding on a trip from Northampton to London.
* The main Betfair fund is picking up again - now well over £600.
* I have a list of 210 (!) betting websites which offer free bets. I intend to use up all of these via matched betting. The profits will go into the main Betfair fund.
* I have a further list of websites which allow partners to join. I'll go through these with Vicki.

Have been up all night so can't think of anymore at the mo!

Acres of Diamonds

I am really interested in making money out of the Public Domain. I'm not hot in the legalities of it, but from basic reading I think that I can legally publish an out of copyright work so long as I don't change it.

I all for "just do it" so I've published "Acres of Diamonds". It's up on Lulu and my Vendr now. I've asked Amazon Advantage to list it. If Amazon take it and it gets a sale I'll follow this up with some more.

Gas and Electric

My Utility bill must be due to come down soon -

Gas - £171.13credit
Electric - £90.07 debit (and coming down)

That £80 that I'm ahead would come in handy.

Sony Ericsson K800i Sold - £11

I've taken up Mazuma Mobile on their kind offer of £11 for an old K800i. Hopefully £11 should be winging it's way into my bank account very shortly!

If the government wants to save money, why don't they just scrap the CSA?

The CSA is an unnecessary organisation. If it didn't exist, 95% of maintenance would go ahead as normal. The other 5% could get sorted out through the court system, which is what I assume must have happened before the CSA existed. Legal Aid is there to ensure that the needy get the help they need to stop bully boys.

I hate the CSA. I appreciate that I have to pay child maintenance - that's not a problem. I hate the fact that a) they constantly get it wrong and b) they can take money straight out your wages without telling you, or justifying it. Scum.

Here's my latest letter to them:

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am extremely distressed by the letter I recently received from the CSA (ref. above). Your letter states that I have overpaid by:

£69.20
+59.97
+£36.90
= £166.07

This is extremely different from the overpayment I calculated from the account breakdown you previously sent.

Let's look at the evidence:

13/3/10 - ref. SNE FAL DE EMPL1

CSA tell me I have arrears of £396.24

15/3/10 - ref. 0807325304

CSA tell me I must pay £31 per week

* If we follow this through then I would be due the CSA £396.24 + £551 (17 x £31) -

£551
+396.24
=£947.24

but then from this you would have to deduct the two amounts which have been taken from my wages over the last two months. These payments came to £1100. This brings me to -

£152.76 credit

Furthermore, the CSA have previously written to me to confirm that I made payments of £200pcm to my exwife from 2003 to 2004. These payments would bring another £2400 to my account bringing the total to:

£2552.76 credit

It is becoming more and more obvious to me that your whole organisation doesn't have a clue what it is doing. You really do seem to just make it up as you go along!

I think the time has come when I need to meet my caseworker face to face to ensure an end to this absolutely diabolical service.

R Taylor.
