Darts Training Ad

My Darts Training Ad got a lot of views but no takers.

"Are you keen on Darts but need someone to train with? I am available most nights after 7.30pm. Drop me a line if you are interested.

I'm not the greatest player but I'm interested in Coaching."

This is genius............

I love this idea from www.usingwhatyouhave.com:

"If you have an internet-based business like we have, you can operate it from anywhere. I haven't seen it done yet, but a van could make a nifty traveling office. A desk, a chair, a laptop strapped to the desk... You could park outside of coffee shops with a wireless signal to get online. This is not so much how to make money with a van as it is from a van, but the rent is cheap for this kind of office."

I think this is what Robert Kiyosaki did when he was starting out.

Cash from Studies

Today I made a little cash by taking part in a study at my local university. Very easy money for 40 minutes "work".

I wish I could do that every day.

Voodoo Dolls

I've mentioned before how I believe that revenge is going to be a big industry in the future. In the UK this is due to a number of societal factors, for example:

  • Generally speaking we are no longer unionised. If we have a problem at work we can no longer go to our Shop Steward to sort things out. This can leave the workforce frustrated.
  • The absence of a union presence can actually hold back the development of management skills. I bet the standard of management in the UK has not improved over the last 10 years (fake surveys in the papers might say something different).
  • People are more wary of confrontation nowadays. In the past I'm sure that, on occasion, people would let off steam via a physical fight at work. Nowadays this would be a real oddity. Instead we are now in the age of the "internet troll". Sneakiness is rising.

In light of this, I bet that bespoke Voodoo Dolls would be an interesting wee business. Someone sends you a picture of the mark along with an address to send the doll to. You dress up a doll to look like the mark and send it off. That's it. All violent threats etc are implied by the receiver themselves.

In the News.........

Some recent stories that may be of interest to #1000moneymakers readers:

Daily Mail - "Beggar who sat outside Natwest bank with a hungry and homeless sign raked in £300 a day while living in a £300k flat".

Not very moral, but it shows what you need to do when the shit hits the fan.

Daily Mirror - "Gang faked stag do bus crash for cash"

13 guys claimed a total of £134k after faking a minibus crash. They got away with it. I bet this only got rumbled because of the scale and of the bid. I personally know people who have been paid out following successful fake whiplash claims.

Daily Mirror - "Lee Tyers: Fraudster who put his pubic hair in curry to get free meal is jailed".

The interesting thing about this story is that the nutjob had actually did the scam at the same restaurant a number of times in the past. It was only at the 3rd or 4th attempt that the restauranteur smelled a rat.

Daily Mail - "Laughing all the way to the bank: The comics who are earning a fortune and even overtaking Premier League Footballers".

Did you know Peter Kay has been making the equivalent of £45k a day over the last 2 years! The most interesting thing is that the top end of the list is dominated by the blandest observational comics you could ever think of - Kay, Michael McIntyre, John Bishop, Jack Dee, Russell Howard, Rhod Gilbert. It seems that getting on the TV Gravy Train is a key to the success.

Daily Mail - "Three forgers jailed for total of 12 years after biggest ever plot to flood Britain with £1.5million in fake pound coins"

For many years I worked in the Gaming Industry and would therefore have many tens of thousands of pound coins passing through my business every week. I can attest that AT LEAST 1 in every 20 pound coins is a fake. The best way to get rid of a box of fake coins would be to go to your local Bingo Hall in a baseball cap. Tuck yourself up in the corner and play a £500 machine until you get a decent payout. Swap the coins for notes and walk out.

Daily Mail - "Fxxx For Forest: The eco-activists who make pornographic films of themselves to raise money for the rainforest"

These guys have raised hundreds of thousands by filming a sex scene every night and charging subscribers £10 a month to see. Now, I'm not involved in the Adult industry whatsoever but I began to think - what if an attractive couple put on a show every night at a certain time and then streamed it live on the net? (Apologies if this is going on already)/ I'm sure folk would pay to watch that.

This might be a stupid question................

I just bought a set of very nice solar powered fairy lights for my greenhouse. At dusk the lights come on automatically. Why couldn't something similar be done for our homes?

What's going on?

I've been much too busy working in my business, to work on my business of late. Here's what I've been up to:

  • Overtime at work has been taking up a lot of my time. After the hurly-burly of the office hours I'm trying to build up a better plan of action/ routine for years to come.
  • After work I've been doing a lot of hill-walking. I've got Ben Nevis in 2 weeks and I'm not looking forward to it. If you struggle on Dumyat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumyat) then Scotland's highest peak is going to be a test!
  • I'm back up to nearly 3000 followers on Twitter - a long way to go.
  • I have 200 books at Amazon FBA now. They only got fully registered yesterday so I'm hoping for a few sales soon.
  • My veggies are blooming. I've learned a lot from last year - and I'm sure next year will be even better.
  • I've purchased a Polygraph Machine and I'm looking into setting up a small business around this.
  • I'm also setting up "Taylor Management Services" but this is still at the (very) early stages.
  • I've got an ad on Gumtree now offering my services as a Darts Coach.

The One Straw Revolution

Call it “Zen and the Art of Farming” or a “Little Green Book,” Masanobu Fukuoka’s manifesto about farming, eating, and the limits of human knowledge presents a radical challenge to the global systems we rely on for our food. At the same time, it is a spiritual memoir of a man whose innovative system of cultivating the earth reflects a deep faith in the wholeness and balance of the natural world. As Wendell Berry writes in his preface, the book “is valuable to us because it is at once practical and philosophical. It is an inspiring, necessary book about agriculture because it is not just about agriculture.”

Trained as a scientist, Fukuoka rejected both modern agribusiness and centuries of agricultural practice, deciding instead that the best forms of cultivation mirror nature’s own laws. Over the next three decades he perfected his so-called “do-nothing” technique: commonsense, sustainable practices that all but eliminate the use of pesticides, fertilizer, tillage, and perhaps most significantly, wasteful effort.

Whether you’re a guerrilla gardener or a kitchen gardener, dedicated to slow food or simply looking to live a healthier life, you will find something here—you may even be moved to start a revolution of your own.

Hotel Complaining Success

Dear Mr Taylor

Firstly, thank you for choosing to stay with us here at the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel and Spa on the 1st June 2013.

Please accept my personal apologies for the problems you encountered, it would appear that we have fallen short of our normally very high standards of service and customer care on this occasion.

We do advise check-in is from 2.00pm unfortunately, as stated, your room was not available at this time, hence the offer of complimentary refreshments.  These should have been forthcoming, this will be investigated and I will be speaking to the team members involved.

With regards to the bathrobe, our robes are all the same size.  However, if for any reason this particular one was an issue, we would have been more that happy to supply a replacement.

Thank you once again for your comments, such feedback is a valuable way for us to monitor our operation and make improvements where necessary.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the Macdonald Inchyra Hotel and Spa in the near future, and in this instance as a gesture of goodwill I would like to offer you a preferential reduced rate and complimentary upgrade on your room.

If in the meantime I can be of any further assistance then please do not hesitate to contact me or a member of my team.

Scratch Your Own Itch

A great rule of thumb in business is "Scratch  Your Own Itch". If you find the need for a new product or service then so might someone else. Countless products have been born in such a fashion - necessity is the mother of invention.

In light of that, how about this?

Last week I was looking for a holiday cottage in Scotland with a hot tub and a sauna. No hits I'm afraid, the computer said no.

If you own a cottage you need to get kitted out. I'm sure there is massive business to be had out there if someone was to offer such a service. Air BnB is huge - and will only get bigger.
