A Quick Way to Make Money via the Kindle by Sharbing

Did you know that there is currently no Kindle books on Sharbing? If you have any sharbing experience then you need to type it up and load it onto the Kindle ASAP. Amazon talk you through everything you need to do. Just click the "Self Publish with Us" option at the bottom of the home page. You don't need to go through War and Peace. Just do a quick chapter on how to prepare (and include your Betfair referral code). Do a chapter on the Maths behind sharbing. Do a chapter on the actual procedure and rules and then do a summary of your successes. I'm sure 9 out of 10 sharbers could do this better than me.

A business cliche is "Find a need and fill it". Someone needs to do a Sharbing Kindle book now! At the moment the only relatively close title I can find is:

But this is too cheesy and American to be counted as competition.

Get off your arse and make cash now! You could write the book in just a couple of hours and have it bringing you in cash within a couple of days!

By the way, my Betfair referral code is VC6F3UGNL

My take on Gambling Systems

The first rule of Gambling Systems is never buy a Gambling System. Trust me, I’ve spent hundreds, if not thousands, on systems and they have all been absolute tosh. The vast majority take the form of progressive Staking plans hidden amongst some over elaborate story. For example:

“For 28 years I worked as the stable hand for Martin Pipe. Over that time I heard the whispers and was part of all the major coups. Now I am giving you my secrets as I can no longer get a bet at my local shops. When David Pipe sends out two horses in one race back the one with longer odds. If that doesn’t win then wait until the next time this occurs and double your bet. Statistics show you will go no longer than X races without a win”.

Progressive betting doesn’t work. The Martingale system doesn’t work.

ASIDE: A martingale is any of a class of betting strategies that originated from and were popular in 18th century France. The simplest of these strategies was designed for a game in which the gambler wins his stake if a coin comes up heads and loses it if the coin comes up tails. The strategy had the gambler double his bet after every loss, so that the first win would recover all previous losses plus win a profit equal to the original stake. The martingale strategy has been applied to roulette as well, as the probability of hitting either red or black is close to 50%.

Since a gambler with infinite wealth will, almost surely, eventually flip heads, the martingale betting strategy was seen as a sure thing by those who advocated it. Of course, none of the gamblers in fact possessed infinite wealth, and the exponential growth of the bets would eventually bankrupt "unlucky" gamblers who chose to use the martingale. It is therefore a good example of a Taleb distribution – the gambler usually wins a small net reward, thus appearing to have a sound strategy. However, the gambler's expected value does indeed remain zero because the small probability that he will suffer a catastrophic loss exactly balances with his expected gain. The likelihood of catastrophic loss may not even be very small. The bet size rises exponentially. This, combined with the fact that strings of consecutive losses actually occur more often than common intuition suggests, can bankrupt a gambler quickly.

Casino betting limits eliminate the effectiveness of using the martingale strategy.

So why have I mentioned something that doesn’t make money? You are not getting it are you? I am looking at this from the sellers point of view – not the mark’s point of view. Take a quick look at Ebay. Type “Betting System” into Ebay and select Completed Listings (200 to a page). You will see that Tens of Thousands has been spent on Betting Systems in the last couple of months. Do it yourself and see. Do you believe that the guys selling these systems are all ex-Jockeys who are in the know? The truth of the matter is that these are being sold by Internet Marketers. Guys in their bedroom, wearing a dressing gown, hunched over a laptop – guys just like us.

To make money from this simply take a system (google to get free ones). Paper trade for a few weeks. Take the one showing the best profit and wrap it up within a story. For example say that your Grandad was an Equerry for the Queen Mother. He left you the system in his will or something like that. List on Ebay showing your results clearly.

I would treat this business as a “cold shower”. In quickly and out quickly. Go for 5 x £5 profit sales on a certain system and then mothball it. I reckon you could do this 4 times a year and thereby make £100pa.

A Breakdown of my Simple Betting System

Take any League game in England or the SPL. Wait until the clock hits 81mins. Bet that the final score will be UNDER current number of goals + 2.5.

For example, if is is 1-1 then bet under 4.5g; if it is 4-1 bet under 7.5g. On most EPL games the market is liquid enough to have 1.01 or 1.02 on offer at that stage (my normal bet is £100 or £200).

Where real money can be made is when goals are scored after the 81st minute. Imagine a game is 1-1 at the 81min mark. You are too late to get a bt on however a goal is sunk at the 85th minute. The under 4.5g market will come back alive at c. 1.05 to 1.08. At this point I would once again go in with a £100 or £200 bet. Don't worry if a match seems like a goal fest and is 6-5 at the 81st minute and don't worry if a team is down to 9 men. The above rule works whatever the circumstances.

The average odds you'll get on the system are c. 1.03 meaning you roughly need to win 34 out of 35 bets to be in profit. In reality I've found that I can go months and months without a loser. Indeed the only times I ever fail is when I go off-piste and try to be fancy by betting cup games (where there is more to play for right up to the final whistle), betting Spanish games (where Barca run a team ragged for 80 mins and then go all out for the last section of the match) or by betting at the 79th minute or earlier.

If you have discipline you could really make a go of this statistical anomaly. Using Kelly Stakes or half Kelly Stakes would greatly improve the profitability. The next step with the system would be to see at what minute you would be safe to bet that the final score would be UNDER current number of goals + 3.5.

Perth Racecourse System

A few months ago I mentioned that I thought that Perth Racecourse seemed to have less long odds winners than elsewhere. Here is what I found:

* Of the 40 checked Handicap races at Perth this season, only two had winners at odds of greater than 10/1. 2 of the 40 were odds on.

* Of the 27 checked Non Handicap races, only two had winners with odds of greater than 10/1. 3 of the 27 were odds on.

Earlier this year I won over £600 on the Cheltenham Friday Placepot by using Ten year trends. Races at Perth don't have the prestige to build up such a history but this may change and is worth monitorring.

I would say that if you stuck to horses in the EVS to 10/1 range in Handicaps at Perth you won't go far wrong. I'm guessing that Favourites don't have a great time of it at Perth but I can't confirm this.

That brings me to the second piont. When you search for UK football stats you can get a wealth of data within a few clicks. When you search for UK Horse racing stats you hit a tolbooth very quickly. A good site would be a free to view Horse Racing site perhaps focussing on the Scottish courses.

Poker System

My mate is a successful Poker Player. Here is some of his strategy rules as far as I can understand:

* Never limp in.
* Never just call a bet unless you have position and have a semi-decent hand.
* Use position.
* Use Blind stats to your advantage.
* Always be raising. Agression is good.
* If you start bluffing you've got to keep bluffing.
* Hold'em Manager is a key tool for grinder.

My Perth Theory

Check out the results at Perth Racecourse over the two meetings last week. All winners bar two were 6/1 or less. The other 2 were 9/1 and 11/1.

Keep a close eye on this man! I'm sure now that the highest price winner in the last couple of years has only been 16/1. I'm willing to bet that this is less than any other course in the UK.

Also keep an eye on the Scottish jockeys. There is bound to be a profitable system there.
