Discipline is the Key on Betfair

I am not joking when I say that if I had stuck to my original system on Betfair and worked by half Kelly stakes, I'm pretty sure that I would have at least £20k more to my name right now. Scary stuff. I have to buck up.

Like an alcoholic I am now going to have to start counting the number of days since my last non-system bet. Discipline is definitely the key in the world of gambling. It sits like an angel on one shoulder whilst the little devil called Greed whispers into my other ear.

Comping Time

Had a flurry of comping activity a few weeks back and was duly rewarded with 2 tickets for Saracens against Harlequins at Wembley Stadium, with a McFly concert immediately afterwards. Face value £30.

Cheltenham Success

Fantastic success at the Cheltanham Gold Cup on Friday. Winner in the 3rd race with Brindisi Breeze at 8/1 returned me £180. Then I won the Placepot for 80p and got £503 back. On returning from the racing I checked Betfair to find that I'd made £189 on there. Nice stuff.

The Betfair work was the best. Basically I went through all the ten year trends to rule out horses which I thought definitely wouldn't win. I then laid them at SP to a £100 liability. All in all I laid 40 to 50 horses on the last day of the Festival (so had a theoretical liability of £700) and they all duly obliged. In fact I'm sure only about 3 were even placed.

This worked so well that I think I'm going to do it for all the big meetings where there is a lot of history and stats to work with. The next logical time to try would be the Grand National Meeting at Aintree, and also the Cambridgeshire meeting at Newmarket which is the traditional curtain raiser for the Flat season.

Moving House Calculations

I must be one of the most boring men in the World. I've broken my forthcoming house move into various sums:

My mortgage is currently £573. I reckon we can rent our's out through an agent for £580. We'll therefore have to lay out £58 per month in agency fees. We'll be able to reduce our insurance from £35 Buildings and contents to £10. All of this gives a net result of - £26.

Once we've moved our new place has 16 Solar panels so the Electricity bill is virtually nothing, bagging a saving of £40 per month. Also, as my wife is currently off on Maternity leave, we've decided to go down to one car. This could mean big savings. Apart from the £600 value of the car, on a monthly basis we're looking at saving £40 a month on insurance (I'm already a named driver on the other car) and another tenner on road tax.

We've got possible further savings on our TV package as the Mrs says she'll be happy to look at cutting down from our current £68 (!) package.

Overall I think that makes a saving of £64 per month on the move.

Better day at the office

First real Saturday back on the computer since the England V Holland debacle and I'm pleased with the results:

Disaster Zone!

My winning streak came to an end with a £350 loss on the England game last night. Goals came around the 84th, 90th and 91st minute.

Need to learn my lesson - stick to League games.
